What is the role of the laser collimator in the laser?

2023-11-08

Semiconductor laser has the advantages of low cost, long life, small size and high reliability, and has a wide range of application prospects in industrial processing, pumping, medical treatment, communication and so on. Whether the laser output brightness can be further improved is an important factor restricting the future development of semiconductor lasers. The brightness of the laser beam is determined by the size of the output power and the beam quality, the greater the power, the better the beam quality, the higher the brightness, and the application field of semiconductor lasers is more extensive.
Semiconductor laser array is one of the common means to realize high-power and high-brightness semiconductor laser. The semiconductor laser array arranges several semiconductor laser emitting units successively in the slow axis direction to realize the accumulation of power. The divergence Angle of a single luminous unit in the fast axis direction is usually 30~40°, and the divergence Angle in the slow axis direction is usually 5°~10°, and the fast and slow axes need to be collimated in practical applications. At present, the commonly used collimating method is to use the fast axis collimator and the slow axis collimator respectively, first let the beam pass through the fast axis collimator (usually an aspherical cylindrical lens), and then let the beam pass through the slow axis collimator (generally a miniature cylindrical lens array) to obtain the collimated laser beam array.
Laser collimator is one of the core accessories of laser equipment such as laser welding machine, laser marking machine, laser cutting machine, laser engraving machine, collimator is for the point light source, laser collimator is the light from the energy fiber, that is, a point light source with divergence Angle, put this point light source on the focus of the fiber collimator, the light emitted from the focus of the focusing mirror, When it passes through the collimator, it becomes a parallel light.
Laser collimators are used in various optical measurement systems, often in the collimating light path, so that the emitting and dispersing light path into a parallel light path. With different optical elements, the alignment of the beam can be optimized for different measurement processes. In order to improve the fiber coupling efficiency and reduce the beam divergence Angle, an optical fiber collimator needs to be installed at the fiber port.
The area of the focused spot after passing through the collimator is twice as large as the area of the point light source coming out of the human energy fiber, and the energy density is 1/2 of the original. After the optical fiber collimator is adjusted, the divergence Angle of the beam does not exceed 2°.
The function of the laser collimator in the CO2 laser is to focus the laser beam inside the laser head, and the convex surface is upward to ensure that the lens is firmly installed and not loose.
